CONTEXT OF THE SPELLING SCOPE AND SEQUENCE DOCUMENT Spelling is referred to within the Victorian Curriculum Achievement standards and the descriptors at each level of learning. The knowledges, skills and strategies associated with spelling are to be found in the Language Strand, within the modes of Reading, Writing & Speaking & Listening under the subheading of Phonics and Word Study. The fundamental knowledges, skills and strategies are vital for both reading (decoding of text) and for writing. Speaking and listening offers us the strategies that effective readers and writers use.
